What is JOY Group?

A vibrant group of men and women 55 years and older. We may be “retired,” but we never retire from learning or having fun. This group is open to anyone in the community who enjoys being with friends. Come, join us, and bring a guest!

Asbury JOY Group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month and, together, to enjoy a delicious lunch and a variety of entertainment/education or adventure.  Our meeting at 11:00 am on September 20, 2018 will begin the 2018/2019 season.  At this meeting there will be time to catch up with those you may not have seen all summer, complete an indemnity form as required by Raleigh Parks and Recreation and receive a flu shot if you wish.  Flu vaccine immunizations will be provided by a CVS pharmacist.  Be sure to bring your insurance card.

Meetings

We generally meet from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on the third Thursday of the month (excluding June – August). We meet at Asbury Church (North Building) and, together, we enjoy a delicious lunch and a variety of entertainment/education or adventure.

Costs

Our annual dues are reduced to $5.00 per year (collected in September) and the fee for lunch will remain at $6.00 per person. The dues help offset the cost of lunches, supplies and gifts or gift cards for our speakers/entertainment.

Additional Information

Since the Asbury JOY Group is associated with Raleigh Parks and Recreation for Adults, we have the privilege of attending the Golden Years Holiday Celebration sponsored by WRAL Capital Broadcasting at the Raleigh Convention Center downtown.  This year, the event will be held on December 5th, requiring us to report the number of attendees earlier than usual.  Potential attendees must make a decision and sign up by our October meeting.  This will allow time for transportation and food arrangements to be completed.  The Golden Years Holiday Celebration features a delicious breakfast, a band, singers, dance groups, a little comedy, folks from WRAL and Santa, of course.  It is highly anticipated and well attended by Senior Citizens from all across the city and surrounding area.  Transportation is provided by buses from Raleigh Parks and Recreation.  The only cost for this uplifting event is a fee for the bus, which was $4.00 per person last year.  It is a really good time and wonderful way to get you in the holiday spirit!

Golden Years Celebration pictures from the December 2017 event will be shown by Glen Wells at the September meeting.  This way you may see how much fun was had by all.  Remember, at our first meeting in September, flu vaccine immunizations will be provided by a CVS pharmacist.  Bring your insurance card and receive your flu vaccine, have a good lunch, view pictures from Golden Years 2017 and socialize with friends you may not have seen in a while.  For more information, please contact Jeanne Davis at 239-248-9066 or Velma Wells at 919-847-0775.
