NEWS AND NOTES
Scout Sunday is a beautiful reminder to ground ourselves in faith and reverence, both in our personal lives and in Boy Scouts of America’s daily mission to make the world a better place. We are excited to have Cub Scouts Pack 350 and Boy Scouts Troop 350 serve us this Sunday. Don’t be alarmed when you see these faithful young people bustling around campus greeting and handing out bulletins on Sunday!
Are you a person that prefers the safety of the harbor or do you prefer the open seas? In our latest blog post, Pastor Tom states, “Just as the ship has to leave the harbor to fulfill her potential, we too have to step out in faith to be all God calls us to be.” Are you willing to take that risk? Check it out!!
New LifeGroup forming in February!
A new multi-generational group will meet Wednesday evenings. Leaders will be Charles & Debbie Kaighn and Tim & Margaret Moore. For more information, contact Sharon Hensley.
Marking the beginning of the Lenten season, together we’ll enjoy a worship experience through prayer, scripture, music, and the imposition of ashes. Childcare is provided through age 2.
A book drive for Christian Library International will be held at Asbury during the month of February. CLI only ships Christian books, Bible studies, and Bibles to over 1,600 prisons. Donations should be placed in labeled boxes found in each lobby.
Join us Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 PM for a night of worship featuring Brothers McClurg, our very own Worship Director, Kevin Michael Thompson, and special guest, Ian Zumback. Brothers McClurg have written many of the songs we sing at Asbury including: You Shine Through, From Every Stormy Wind That Blows, All Hail the Power, and more! Grab your friends and family and join us for a special midweek night of song!
If you missed last week’s confirmation interest meeting but your child would like to participate in this life-changing experience, please email Andy Mannes no later than February 4. Confirmation is open to all students, but typically our younger students, 6th and/or 7th grade students participate in the class and complete their confirmation.
This month’s JOY Group will feature a special musical guest, Allen Hayes, who is also a member of Asbury Church. He is well known in our community for his musical talent and we are excited to welcome him as part of our program. Lunch will be served at the usual cost of $6 per person. Come and enjoy the music and fellowship.
Please join us THIS Sunday, February 4 at 5:00 PM (NEW TIME) in Asbury South for our monthly prayer meeting. This month’s focus will be on the love of Christ.
We invite you to participate in S.O.A.P.Y. It’s our way to read and reflect on daily passages from the Bible and connect to scripture as a community of Christ followers. You can pick up a bookmark in the lobby of either building, visit the SOAPY page on our website, or subscribe to have it sent to your email every morning. We hope this will be a great tool to help your continued growth with Jesus.
