Communion Sunday
THIS SUNDAY AT ASBURY
Sermon: “Smackdown!”
Genesis 32:22-31
Tom Newman, Lead Pastor
This week we’ll meet the “Great Contender” – Jacob. At least, he wanted to be a contender. He spent a big portion of his life in an unending struggle with no hope of winning. Sometimes we feel that way too. Life feels more like a battle than a quiet stroll along the shore. Jacob tried so hard to get ahead only to find unexpected obstacles at every turn. With every obstacle he overcame it seemed like a bigger one took its place. Sound familiar? God designed life to be more than a constant wrestling match, or worse, an unending episode of the WWE Smackdown! This week we’ll read Genesis 32:22-31 and take a closer look at Jacob. There are lessons in Jacob’s story we can learn that will help us. Perhaps if we can discover what Jacob was missing, we’ll also discover more joy and an expected power for our lives. God designed us to be more than a weary contender in an unending battle. Worship this weekend and we’ll discover together how we can move from weary contender to victorious overcomer in Jesus’ name! Be sure to bring friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else you can invite…they’ll be glad you did!

2017 InterVarsity Tour of Raleigh
Andy & Cheryl White [Asbury sponsored missionaries] lead the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship ministry to international students at NC State University. Approximately 1,000 new international students arrive each fall. The Whites organize the “Tour of Raleigh” each summer to help acclimate these students to their new home away from home. Drivers and Guides are needed to help make this a success. The route is planned out with various stops. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning, making new friends and “engaging in relationships where Christ transforms.” Would you consider spending 4 hours to help make someone feel welcome? Sign up to find out more or volunteer!
Student Ministry is seeking volunteers!
