THIS SUNDAY @ ASBURY
Sermon Preview: “Lord, How Can We?”
Tom Newman, Lead Pastor
Have you forgiven if you haven’t forgotten? What about if they haven’t asked? Do we have to forgive people who don’t want to be forgiven? Forgiveness is hard, even among people who care deeply for each other and try really hard not to hurt each other. We all have a story about forgiveness and, if we’re brutally honest, excuses to justify the grudges we carry. Just a few days ago, we came face to face with a national tragedy where we were shamefully and unapologetically attacked. On September 11, 2001 innocent people paid the price of hate and none of our lives will ever be the same again. This Sunday, we’ll read Matthew 18:21-35 where Jesus instructs his followers to essentially forgive until they loose track of how many times. Do these words matter to us? Do they even apply in our context? What would it look like if these words do apply and how much more free might we be if we could live into them? Be sure to worship this weekend where we’ll ask “Lord, How Can We Forgive?” when the offense is so great and our excuses to hold a grudge are so many. God’s answer will bring light and life and we’ll all be better for it. Be sure to invite your friends and acquaintances to worship with you…they’ll be glad you did!
