Sermon Preview: “‘Words Create Worlds”
Exodus 20:1-20
Tom Newman, Lead Pastor

stonesWe’ve all heard the nursery rhyme about sticks and stones and how they may break our bones but words will never hurt us. Somehow, we know this isn’t true. It was with a word that God chose to create and today words spoken to us create the worlds into which we live. Children live up or down to the words spoken to them. A kind word spoken to a stranger can reshape a bad day into a good day and a harsh word spoken to a loved one can crush for hours, days and even longer! There is power in our words and we should use them wisely and judiciously. What words are creating the world into which you are living? What worlds are your words creating for others to live into? This week we will look at life giving and life affirming words that God spoke to Moses high on a mountain that have done much to shape our world (see Exodus 20:1-20). We will seek to discover what these ancient words might mean for us today and consider carefully how our words might give life to us and to those to whom we speak. This will be a powerful time of worship you will not want to miss as we sing, share and study God’s Word. Be sure to invite friends and acquaintances to come with you…they’ll be glad you did!
